While modern ship captains might rely solely upon radars and GPS systems, Christopher Columbus and many other early explorers used the stars to navigate the vast oceans.
Today you can learn about the stars in many different ways. There are books that outline many of the constellations, but it can be hard to decipher just where they are in the night sky. As the Earth rotates around the sun, the seasons change and so do the stars and finding them in a book can be difficult.
The easiest way to learn about all of those bright stars is a Celestial globe. These fabulous globes can teach you just about everything that you would want to know about the night sky. There are some celestial globes that at first glance, appear to be just a regular globe but when the lights get dimmer a special optical circuit will light the stars revealing the constellations. Other celestial globes are much more advanced. These can identify stars by name, brightness and distance from the earth. They will even simulate the movement of the Earth around the sun. This feature will show what stars are visible over each country at certain times of the year.
